At Catapult, there’s nothing that makes us more proud than seeing our great people doing great work! So many of our candidates put in such a stellar effort, we thought it was only right that we shout about it – that’s where Candidate of the Month comes in.

Every month, we pick one or two people who’ve gone above and beyond to receive the title (and we throw in a paid day off too!). The most recent person to be crowned Candidate of the Month was all ’round superstar, Ruben!

Get to know him here, find out how he spent his day off, and make sure to say “hi” next time you see him at a shift.

How long have you been working on the platform?

I started working on the platform at the end of January this year.

Where did you work before you joined Catapult?

Before I joined Catapult, I used to work in different events around London and the UK. I did lots of fine dining work, including working at Buckingham Palace and some very prestigious private houses in Surrey owned by billionaires!

What types of shifts do you usually work?

As a waiter, I usually go for waiting shifts. So I have been working in 5-star hotels including Four Seasons, the Langham Hotel, Intercontinental, Hilton, the Royal Garden Hotel, the Royal Horseguards Hotel, Marriott and the Sofitel. Catapult also gave me the opportunity to be trained as a Food Preparation Assistant and I undergo this role at Wembley Stadium.

Why do you like working with Catapult?

First of all, what I like about it is that it is extremely flexible. I can choose wherever, whenever I want to work and everything is done through an application on my phone, which is really handy.

Thanks to Catapult, I also met some great candidates that I am happy to call friends now.

The people in the office are extremely friendly and you can talk to them about anything really (obviously concerning work!).

Also what shocked me is that they send a Catapult representative to any of their clients before we actually start to work there to make sure the employers and employees are on the same page. That shows how much Catapult care about their employees.

Finally, you can get a very exciting work experience with Catapult because you can’t be bored if you balance your week between different roles (so you are never tired of the same old routine!).

Where’s your favourite place to work?

I’ve got plenty because I usually always get treated well on shifts. But if I have to choose one it will probably be the Marriott Hotel in Park Lane. It’s great how friendly their staff are, including the manager who always gives me my breakfast or makes coffee for me when I do breakfast shifts. Also, they never let you have too much work and if you feel like you actually have too much work, you can just tell them and they send someone to help you out.

How do you spend your time when you’re not working with Catapult?

Sleeping haha. I’ve got a big interest in cooking. So I usually cook some great food on my days off. I usually go for Caribbean cuisine as it is where I am from. My favourite dishes are: Colombo de poulet/crevettes (Caribbean chicken/king prawns curry) and dombrés de ouassous (a kind of broth with king prawns, tomatoes, achiote and dumplings made of flour).

After I have eaten, I call my friends and we usually go out for a drink.

Also as a man of faith, I like listening and dancing to Christian songs and go to Hillsong Church whenever I can.

What did you do on your day off?

Well, I went for piñas coladas and a burger in Camden Town with a friend. I can’t remember how many of them I had that day but that day off was well-needed and brought sunshine into my life. Thanks Catapult
