Stan is one member of our talented Op’s team! A lot of you will have spoken to him on LiveChat or on the phone, so here is your chance to get to know him a bit better!

How long have you worked at Catapult, Stan?

I started working at Catapult in May 2017 and have never looked back, it’s still a lot of fun!

How did you get the job?

I actually used to be a candidate on the app. I’d done about 8 shifts and enjoyed them all.  One day, I was browsing the app looking for shifts when I saw an offer to work in the office! Being part of a tech startup sounded pretty cool so I applied and made it in.

So your job changed? Tell us a little about your new role?

Yeah, I went from being a candidate to supporting candidates and employers in the Catapult operations  team. We work with all kinds of businesses with dynamic staffing needs. In my role, I’m responsible for ensuring that our clients have the  candidates they require for different shifts. On the candidate side, I make sure they are equipped with all the info to have a great time when working. Whenever any issues arise, I’m there to problem solve and make sure that both clients and candidates are as happy as possible. Communication is key, I get to converse with all kinds of people everyday which keeps me on my toes.

What’s the best thing about Catapult?

It’s undoubtedly the people! I’ve worked in many different businesses before and the first thing that struck me was how authentic, energised and open-minded everyone was in our mission to build the world’s most awesome job! They bring this incredible positive energy, which is critical in my opinion considering that working is an essential part of life!

You work on another project, can you tell us a bit about it?

Yeah, I’m really into artificial intelligence! I’m currently working through a self-designed curriculum, I call it the machine learning king challenge. All the courses are online, free and of high quality!

How’d did you get into that Stan?

So I studied some computer science at university and when I first moved to London, I attended some machine learning meetups. I’ve been attending these frequently and the continuing discoveries in the field still excite me! The progress will transform society so now is the best time build skills that will be essential in the future!

Why are you building machine learning skills?

Well, technology is one of the most powerful forces on this planet. These days tech touches every part of our lives and helps us to solve problems we otherwise could not. My vision is to start my own machine learning startup to help make the world a better place! I don’t know what problem I want to solve yet but I continue to learn and explore so that when inspiration strikes, I’ll have the skills to execute on the idea.

What does work/life balance mean to you?

For me, it boils down to flexibility. Having the opportunity to structure your life so that you can work a lot when you need to, less when other parts of your life take higher priority and being surrounded by people who support your lifestyle. That’s the kind of balance I’m into.

How has working at Catapult let you pursue your tech interests?

It’s given me the flexibility I talked about earlier, I’m active in the tech startup scene so working with people who understand my passion and are fully supportive has allowed me to really enjoy my time at work which feeds into everything else I do outside Catapult.

Would you say your a Type A person or Type B person?

Hmm, I’d say I may be a mix haha.

Why do you think that is?

When I was younger, I definitely used to be a Type A person and still have those tendencies. However, I’ve realised that I also need to integrate some Type B traits so I can maintain my internal balance. We live in a complex world so I think taking what’s best of each of them helps me to be a better version of myself.

Thanks Stan!
