Meet the team: Jack!

Meet Jack! A vital part of our Ops team as well as an amateur coffee aficionado and charity shop enthusiast. Jack was nice enough to answer a few questions for us below.
How long have you worked at Catapult?
Just one month! Feels like so much longer though.
How did you get the job?
The ops team was looking for “unicorns” (or purple squirrels) to fill the role, and I must have got close to that criteria!
So it’s a pretty new job! Tell us a little about your role?
Oh boy it is! I had previously worked in coffee for nearly 7 years, so with this experience in hospitality I felt equipped to work with Catapult. As a member of the ops team, I help keep everything running like a well-oiled machine!
What’s the best thing about Catapult?
Being around great people means that great things happen. Also the constant mission to better our processes and keep on learning. The energy and positivity of everyone on board is so motivating, and makes me love waking up for work!
Do you have any other projects or hobbies on the go, Jack?
I’m currently working on a photography project about coffee professionals using some of the pals I’ve met and worked with in the last few years. I’m developing the fim in a process that uses instant coffee as one of the ingredients, which I think makes sense! The coffee is part of the image-making process and part of the people I am photographing! Maybe it’s cheesy, but I’m really enjoying it so far!
How did you get into that?
I was terrible at physics in A level and had to swap courses. Photography was the only other course in that block that I could do. It turns out I quite liked it and I continued into university and out the other end.
Where do you see it going in the next few years?
I’m trying my hardest to treat it as a passion project and a creative outlet. I used to do some professional work, but it just never felt quite right! I’m hoping to make a few zines in the future as publications are so fun to make and SO accessible.
What does work/life balance mean to you?
I think the biggest thing is being able to rest when I need to. I didn’t used to value rest time and constantly felt I needed to be busy. That attitude had the knock-on effect of me feeling constantly tired. It was as if I was paying off an eternal sleep debt that kept gaining interest. This is probably one of the most valuable skills I’ve learned in the last couple of years!
How has working at Catapult let you pursue your other interests?
I run charity shop tours in my spare time, the flexibility Catapult gives me has allowed me to keep doing that. I love hosting people and sharing these parts of London with visitors! It’s so fun meeting so many people with such similar interests!
Would you say your a Type A person or Type B person?
Definitely type B
Why do you think that is?
I’ve never been hugely competitive and generally prefer just enjoying the moment when I’m able to. I also took an online quiz and that is definitely scientifically accurate.

Now, we thought we would show you how we’ve made it even easier to complete your courses via the app. Last week, we launched a new feature on the app where you can easily […]Read More
