Meet the team: Ahoy! Laurita

One of our onboarding team’s bright stars, Laurita, grew up sailing the seas and dreams of learning to scuba dive! We took a minute to chat with her about her interests and learn a bit about how she uses her psychology degree as the guiding star that navigates her through her role as an onboarding specialist!
How long have you worked at Catapult?
I’ve worked at Catapult for over 1 year now – time really does go fast! It’s been a blast so far!
How did you get the job?
After I finished my MSc degree in Occupational Psychology I was looking for something where I got to help companies find new candidates. I came across Catapult and decided to give it a go. Before joining I had multiple interviews with different Catapult team members and I absolutely loved it!
How is working at Catapult different from other workplaces?
While studying I mostly worked in hospitality so coming to Catapult was a really different experience for me. At Catapult you get to work with such an enthusiastic and creative team! You also get the chance to take on new responsibilities quite quickly.
Tell us about your role at Catapult?
I work as an onboarding specialist, which means I get to meet most of the candidates who join the platform. I also make sure that candidates have a great experience, not only during our sessions where they get a lot of information about the Catapult app but also when they apply and go through our sign up process. Together with the rest of my team we’re constantly finding new ways of onboarding candidates and trying to make our online sign-up process more engaging, quick and efficient.
And what does your day-to-day look like?
My day-to-day tasks vary. Sometimes I’ll be processing candidates’ applications and on other days I host our right to work sessions. That’s where candidates provide their passport or ID and we discuss their experience. I also spend time communicating with candidates, answering any questions they have about our onboarding process. Since we launched in new cities, I’ve also had the chance to travel around the UK to set up right-to-work sessions.
How does your role impact candidates and/or employers?
I’m part of a team which actively helps candidates through their onboarding journey, and into work as quickly as possible, which a lot of people depend on so it feels great. My psychology degree has given me some insight, which has helped me onboard the hundreds of candidates I’ve met in the time since I started this job. The better quality our candidates are, the happier the employers are going to be with their requirements regarding the calibre of candidates.
What’s the best thing about working at Catapult?
I think the best thing about Catapult is the people. We have a very motivated, diverse, creative and fun team.
What does work/life balance mean to you?
I have recently joined the gym, I know, new year new me! This year I’m trying to balance my life a little bit better and find more time to myself. I think this balance is important for everyone and we should always make time for ourselves and for things that make us tick. Work is a big part of our daily life and it can be easy to fall into the trap of having a rigid routine and forget the things that are important to us or the things that help us relax. I think work and life balance is a thing that Catapult is trying to change that for our candidates by offering them flexible work. I think that’s going to be a more common way of working in the future.
And finally, tell us one interesting fact about you…
I sailed a lot as a child and I love everything that has to do with water, therefore my biggest dream is to learn scuba-diving and to eventually travel to different places and see the world under water.
